Pepsi Refresh Project Information:

Operation Popcorn applied for and won a $5,000 Grant from the Pepsi Refresh Project, administered by the Global Giving Foundation, to help us send popcorn to more of our deployed Troops in the Middle East!  We made our first shipment on October 10, 2011, and to date we have shipped a total of 2900 bags of popcorn, thanks to Pepsi. Our last boxes of approximately 100 more bags will ship on April 24, 2012, and our Pepsi Refresh Project will be complete.

The Pepsi Refresh Project has helped us put a lot more smiles on the faces of deployed Airmen, Seamen, Marines, and Soldiers! We'd like thank Pepsi for their generosity in enabling us to reach so many of our Troops, far outreaching our own expectations, and helping us to bring a small taste of home to some of the men and women in our armed services. A very special thanks goes to all of the people who voted for us on the Pepsi Refresh Challenge website! It has been an awesome experience!

We'll post additional photos of the Troops with the popcorn in the upcoming weeks. Remember - These Troops are in active combat areas, so we don't expect a response from them. But correspondence is always welcome and we do appreciate hearing from them when they're able to send emails and photos. God bless them all!

What is Operation Popcorn?

Operation Popcorn is an ongoing effort to say THANKS to Troops deployed in Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan and other areas in the Middle East by sending them bags of gourmet popcorn... a little taste of home.

Operation Popcorn is sponsored by the Mu Gamma Chapter of Kappa Delta Phi Sorority, a 501 C(10) non-profit organization, as part of their civic and community service.

We are OperationPopcorn.US  - US for them!

How does it work?

For every $5 donated, we're able to sent a single serving bag of gourmet popcorn to 3 deployed Troops. You're invited to participate by making a donation for Red, White, and Blue poker chips. You may write your name or city on one side of each chip, and THANKS or another brief message on the other side. When we've got enough to supply a Unit or Battalion with a full order of popcorn, the Sisters of Mu Gamma get busy! We order the popcorn, pick it up freshly popped, attach a chip to each bag, pack the bags into large boxes, and ship them the same day to waiting Troops.  Whether it's 50 bags or 600 bags ...each shipment is packed with love!

Why do we use red, white, and blue poker chips?

Poker chips represent the number of bags donated. And poker chips don't get stale, and well ... they're patriotic and fun! Perhaps they'll be carried in pockets, mounted in a scrapbook, flipped, traded, tossed, or hung from a tent post. In any case, they are a pleasant reminder that someone cared enough to say Thanks! We're told the popcorn "boosts Troop morale tenfold."

What flavors do we send?

The current flavors include Caramel, Cinnamon, White Cheddar, Yellow Cheddar, Rainbow Confetti, and Gourmet White. All are delicious, fresh, and gourmet quality.

Where can I buy the poker chips?

If you would like to make a donation by mail, please print the order page and mail it with your check or money order, payable to
Kappa Delta Phi, c/o Popcorn Country, 3914 E. Grant Road, Tucson, AZ 85712.

You may also make a donation in person at the Popcorn Country store in Tucson, write your own message on the poker chips, and then drop them into the special collection jar.

In any case, you're always able to specify what your message on the poker chips will be!

Who gets the popcorn?

We send popcorn to
deployed Troops and try to reach as many units as possible. If you would like to request popcorn be sent to a deployed Unit, Battalion, Ship, etc., please email us at Sisters@operationpopcorn.US and someone will contact you for more information.

Thank you for your support!
